Good Evening, Sojourners. Sunday Inspirations, a feature here at Sojourner's Place, is just one way to help get us through the week ahead, the trials we may face, and yes, to say Thank Ya and testify! I invite you to participate in this weekly meme as your contribution might serve as an inspiration to someone in need.
As the holidays draw to a close for me and I ready myself - mind, body, and soul - to return to "my side of the plantation tomorrow", I find myself still reeling with the recent "Home Going" of my beloved Aunt. Her transition was especially hard because, like her Mother and Brother, my Father, she said "good-bye" to us just days before Christmas. of the approaching Holiday. Further, she was the last of her generation to make this transition.
Feisty and blunt, my Aunt could - and would certainly - read you like a book if you needed to be read. There was never any question about what she meant and she never minced or mixed words. Short only in stature, my Aunt was The DIVA. And although her persona was often misread as cold and uncaring, and I'm not sure that I can remember her ever saying the words "I Love You" to anyone, I know she never missed a birthday, a graduation, a birth, or any other important day of my life. And she was always there for me, in good times and in bad times.
Just a few hours before she passed, the minister asked her what she wanted to tell us. She responded "They Already Know". And it was not until I reflected on the words to "I Won't Complain", played as I read her "Reflections of a Life Well Lived", did I understand the I really did Already Know!
So for 2011, I pledge to make sure that those I love and care for "already know" and, I won't complain. Happy New Year, Sojourners!
