Sunday Inspirations: In Tribute

Good evening, Sojourners. Sunday Inspirations, a feature here at Sojourner's Place, is just one way to help get us through the week ahead, the trials we may face, and yes, to say Thank Ya and testify! I invite you to participate in this weekly meme as your contribution might serve as an inspiration to someone in need.

Tomorrow is the designated day on which we will honor The Dreamer - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Had Dr. King not succumbed to an assassin's bullet, he would have actually turned 82, yesterday - January 15th. One can only imagine what this Country, this society, and our lives would be like today, if it had not been for the vision and ultimate sacrifice of Dr. King. A man who was reviled in life and seemingly adored in death. Nevertheless, it is befitting that we honor Dr. King in a day of service.
January 15th is an important day not only because of Dr. King, but also because it is the day that hundreds of thousands of women joined together in celebration and remembrance of the founding of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. As most Sojourners know, I am a very proud AKA, and yesterday was even prouder to rededicate myself to the goals and values set forth 103 years ago on the campus of Howard University.

In joining with a group of Sorors to remember our Founders and why we exist, we were reminded of the courage of the women who sought to be of service to all mankind, who sought by merit and culture to strive to do things that are worthwhile, to dedicate themselves to leave the pile higher for those who would follow. And in my reflections, I was reminded of the video entitled, "A Black Woman's Smile".

Therefore, I've decided to re-post, A Black Woman's Smile, by Ty Gray-EL in honor of of Dr. King and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
