Oh Yeah! It's FRIDAY!!! And that means it's time for some old school jamming and par-taying in the blogosphere! This week's theme is "From Group to Solo to Group!" C'mon Mrs G and Ms Marva! Ya'll making old Sjp do way too much thinking and surfing on this one. But, alas it came to me like a bolt of lightening - as long as you consider a duet as a group, I think I truly nailed this one for you sojourners this week. So, here you go! The dynamic duo! The first couple of soul, rock, and rhythm and blues met at church in 1964. They did a little singing together back in the day - but found a niche composing for such artists as Ronnie Milsap, Maxine Brown, the Shirelles, Chuck Jackson, and Ray Charles. Before they decided to jump the broom, this First Lady broke out with this first hit featured here on this OSF. But, realizing they were better together than apart, the re-joined their voices and words in 1973 and have been making beautiful music together ever since.
I present to you, none other than the Barack and Michelle Obama of music - Ashford and Simpson!
Ashford and Simpson hit the scene in 1964 when the recorded "I'll Find You" as Valerie & Nick. Valerie struck out on her own in 1971 with this recording entitled "I Don't Need Nobody's Help".
Now you got to know that this one is probably my all time favorite A&S cut! You know its a jam! I surfed all over the web to find it so I sure do hope it fits today's theme. And if it don't, you can still jam over here. C'mon - you know you tapping you feet and bobbing your head. Probably gonna listen to it again...ain't you! LOL!
Happy Old School Friday and Holiday weekend!
Much Obliged...
Very Much Obliged to you for hearing me ~ ~
